The workshop organised by Irish in Britain was kindly hosted by Ashford Place, the community resource centre formerly known as Cricklewood Homeless Concern.
Cuimhne Champions Irish in Britain
Dr Mary Tilki delivered this training as part of Irish in Britain’s Cuimhne Champions project.
The workshop brought together people from diverse ages and cultural backgrounds including volunteers, local residents and people working within community, charity and education sectors with rich experiences to share.
Through this workshop participants gained understanding about memory loss and dementia and shared idea about practical actions people might take to help organisations be more accessible and welcoming to people with memory loss.

The workshop design was very interactive with plenty of opportunity for participants to share stories and experiences, participants commenting on sharing on the day being “vital and a plus”.

Participants said the workshop:
”Highlighted how those people may have felt trapped and the range of emotions they may feel”
Helped understanding of how it feels to have memory loss/dementia “enormously: great discussion with fabulous examples”
Offered ”more understanding of the condition, ways to approach it in a positive constructive manner”
Was an “excellent course – time very well spent. I hope very much to put all this to good use”
