Heatwave: how to look after yourself and others
With the current red weather warning for extreme heat in place this week, we encourage everyone to take extra precautions and care during this period of very hot weather.
Extreme heat can pose a serious risk to health and wellbeing, particularly for older adults, people living alone, and those living with long-term health conditions.
Please remember:
Drink plenty of fluids (water is best)
Keep cool (you can use fans and take cool showers)
Avoid the sun where possible (particularly between 11am and 3pm)
Only travel if it is essential
Avoid physical exercise in the direct sun and peak heat
Keep curtains / blinds facing the sun closed
Check in on family members, neighbours and friends who may be more vulnerable during the hot weather
For further advice on staying safe in the heat, the NHS website has steps and information to protect yourself.
