County Wexford – Contae Loch Garman

Both of Ant Hanlon’s parents hailed from County Wexford before moving to Leeds, and he recalls some of his favourite Wexford spots below.

Ant is chief executive of Leeds Irish Health and Homes (LIHH) and Irish Community Care, Manchester. Both organisations have been working tirelessly during the pandemic to provide support and welfare – in particular LIHH’s care packages, known as ‘craic packs’!

From its appearances in Hollywood films Brooklyn and Saving Private Ryan to other gems like Hook Lighthouse, Wexford has some famous sites and a well–known temperate climate – it’s the ‘sunny South East’. Although he never mastered hurling, unlike his father who appeared in a Junior All–Ireland final in the 1950s, Ant has kept an abiding love for the county.
