County Clare – Contae an Chláir
The ‘banner county’ is represented by Yvonne MacNamara – the CEO of the Traveller Movement, an award–winning national charity committed to the fulfilment of human rights for ethnic minority Gypsy, Roma and Traveller people.
Yvonne recently featured on Channel 4’s reporting about Pontins targeting of the Traveller community by blocking bookings of people with Irish surnames. You can read more about the policy and advocacy work of the Traveller Movement here.
In her video, Yvonne talks about her love of the rugged and rough Burren – ‘You haven’t lived unless you’ve been there’. She mentions how special St Patrick’s Day is to her and family and friends and that this year she’ll celebrate with a pint of Guinness on Zoom.
County Clare is one of Ireland’s most beautiful with green rolling hills, the Cliffs of Moher and a landscape peppered by ancient dolmens. It also has a magnificent musical tradition – including the great uilleann pipes player Willie Clancy – memorialised in Andy Irvine’s My Heart’s Tonight in Ireland.
