New project to support healthy ageing in the Irish community

Back to all news

Irish in Britain announces ambitious new health ageing project.

We are thrilled to announce that we have been awarded funding from the National Lottery Reaching Communities Fund for a National Healthy Ageing Project tailored for the Irish community in Britain.

The primary goal of this strategic health project is to enhance the overall health and wellbeing of Irish individuals in Britain aged 50 and above, while also informing a longer-term Healthy Ageing Strategy.

Due to this expansion, we are excited to announce that we will hiring two Healthy Ageing Coordinators to join our health and wellbeing team. One will be based in the South of England and the other in the North/Midlands region. These roles will be instrumental in driving the success of our Healthy Ageing strategy, overseeing its development and implementation as part of our ambitious three-year programme.

The Healthy Ageing Project will address specific challenges within the Irish community, while actively promoting healthy ageing in practical and effective ways across our network.

We will focus on the strengths and expertise of our member groups to promote engagement with Ireland's unique music, dance, sport, language and culture.

We will work together with our members throughout this three-year journey. Together, we will develop, launch and promote a project geared towards improving health and wellbeing, reducing health inequality and providing strategic direction for national health programmes and policy recommendations for the Irish community.

We are grateful to the National Lottery Reaching Communities Fund for their support in making this initiative possible.
