Organisation: Gypsies and Travellers Wales
Location: Wales (Flexible / Remote with occasional travel)
Commitment: Approximately 4-6 meetings per year, plus occasional events and committee work

Gypsies and Travellers Wales is a community-led organisation dedicated to improving the rights, living conditions, and wellbeing of Gypsy and Traveller communities across Wales. We work to promote equality, challenge discrimination, and support cultural heritage through advocacy, education, and community development.
Role Summary
As a Trustee of Gypsies and Travellers Wales, you will play a vital role in shaping the strategic direction and governance of the organisation. Trustees ensure that the charity operates effectively, remains financially sustainable, and meets its legal and ethical responsibilities. Your voice and expertise will help empower Gypsy and Traveller communities throughout Wales.
Key Responsibilities
Provide strategic leadership and governance oversight in line with the organisation’s vision and values
Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and financial obligations
Support and monitor organisational performance and risk management
Help develop and oversee policies, fundraising, and community engagement strategies
Act as an ambassador for Gypsies and Travellers Wales in public, stakeholder, and partnership settings
Attend and contribute to trustee board meetings and relevant sub-committees
Support the Chief Executive and staff through advice, guidance, and advocacy
Person Specification
Commitment to the rights, culture, and wellbeing of Gypsy and Traveller communities
Understanding or willingness to learn about governance and charity sector regulations
Experience in one or more of the following areas is desirable: Lives experience (from the Gypsy and Traveller Community or another under represented group),community development, advocacy, legal, finance, education, or social work
Good communication and teamwork skills
Ability to think strategically and constructively challenge ideas
Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Willingness to dedicate time and energy to the role, including attending meetings and events
