About

Dr Ann Hoskins MB BCh, BAO, MCommH, FFPHM

I was born and brought up in Belfast and have always maintained an interest in Irish politics and culture. I have always been proud of my roots and maintained my connections with Ireland through family and friends.  I have been a board member of the Liverpool Irish Festival and I am proud to see how the festival has developed over the years into a truly multicultural event.

I studied medicine at Queens University Belfast and then left in 1979 to work on health projects in the Republic of Yemen. I returned to England in 1990 and settled in Liverpool. I have over 30 years’ experience working in public health in the UK and the Republic of Yemen. I worked in senior PH roles across the NW, my last role in my main career was with Public Health England as Deputy Director Health and Wellbeing.

I presently work as an independent PH consultant. I chair a small national charity called Best Beginnings which aims to support every child have the best start in life.  I am also a non–executive board member of Plus Dane Housing Association.

I have three daughters and my family are proud of their Irish – Yemeni roots.

I look forward to working with Irish in Britain to support their work especially in the area of health and well–being.
