My story begins over ten years ago when I trained and qualified as a chartered accountant and worked in the charities and governmental bodies sector. I moved to London from Dublin in 2011, worked as an internal audit manager in financial services, where I led reviews of company risks and controls and implemented best practice in line with regulatory standards.
In 2017 I worked as a finance manager operating the day–to–day processes for a growing charity, and also developed and enacted a wind–down strategy for a financially unsustainable charity. Recently, I’ve worked in the London Irish Centre Charity in Camden, with their operational and community wellbeing services teams and have direct experience of the impact of funding and outreach to isolated Irish social groups across London.
I served as Treasurer on the board of Mind Yourself, a health and wellbeing charity supporting Irish people and those who identify as Irish, in North London for three years. During that time, I chaired the Finance and HR sub–committee and participated in detailed reviews with the CEO and Board.
I also have a keen interest in the arts and formally trained as an actor. Consequently I am involved in a number of creative projects.
Irish in Britain’s community membership has great reach across Britain and has been active in promoting the health and wellbeing of Irish people, and I value the worth of providing activities and social interaction to people that may otherwise be ignored. I am keen to bring my skills and experience to the Board at Irish in Britain and help the organisation to continue to prosper and strengthen its involvement with the Irish community here.
