Professional background

In 1984 I completed a business studies course at Dundalk Regional Technical College in Ireland and went on to study accountancy while working at a firm of Chartered accountants in Dublin in the 1980s.

After qualifying as an accountant I moved to London in 1988 where I worked as an auditor and subsequently moved to British Gas and worked there in several finance roles over a period of 14 years finally becoming a Financial Controller in their upstream Centrica Energy division.

I am currently working in the travel technology sector at Travelport International Limited within their internal audit division. I also sit on the Audit Committee for Ealing Council as an Independent Member on a voluntary basis.

General interests

I have been living permanently the UK since 1990 and I currently live in West London with my wife and three children. My oldest child is at university and the other two are currently in secondary school. Their education is my main focus at the moment.

My other passions are working with the Irish diaspora in the UK and advocating for ethnic minorities from Ireland. I am passionate about working for ‘Irish in Britain’ because of its interest in the social welfare and mental health of the Irish community particularly vulnerable members of our community based here in Britain.

Other particular interests are around campaigning for diaspora voting rights and social justice for people who have been in the Irish institutional care system.

I was born in Dublin and brought up in Drogheda. I studied business studies and qualified as an accountant in practice in Dublin. In 1989 I left Dublin for work in London where I pursued a finance career in industry spanning 25 years in several senior positions across different business sectors, from the energy sector to the travel sector where I now work.

I am also member of the Audit Committee at Ealing Council in West London. In 2013 I conducted research for the newly formed mixed race Irish community group based in London and worked to assist and develop that organisation and lead it to a position where it could join the IIB as a full Community Member.
