Colm Tóibín, Chancellor of the University of Liverpool and one of Ireland’s most esteemed writers, judged The End of the World is a Cul de Sac (Bloomsbury, 2021) as the winner, remarking that the stories in the collection are “are beautifully crafted, wry in tone, often bleak” and he commended Kennedy’s “ability to match painful and difficult truth with wit and sharp humour.”
