The Darkness into Light walk started at 4am Saturday morning from the Clayton Crown Hotel in Cricklewood and DIL Chairperson Tara Cronin estimates there were over 1,000 participants at the Cricklewood event and a further 150 at a second walk held in Sunbury–on–Thames.
Laura Whitmore, Radio/TV Presenter and Actress said via her Instagram profile; “Symbolically, the walk represents the therapeutic counselling journey. It sparks conversation about the importance of mental health and wellbeing in all our lives.
“The entry fees raised around the world allow Pieta House and its international charity partners to continue to deliver vital services. It was also a very powerful morning seeing the Irish diaspora getting together and uniting and such an honour to lead the walk in North London. Everyone had their own reasons for being there and having such a positive experience to help deal with such negative subjects was so uplifting and full of hope.”
Marie from Irish in Britain said “The DIL walk was an ideal way to mark the start of our partnership with TCG, and the strong sense of community, togetherness and team effort made the experience well worth the 3am start!”
Speaking of the Green Hearts and TCG partnership, “TCG are well known for their victories on the pitch but the work that goes on behind closed doors to ensure the health and wellbeing of its players and members is tremendous. We’re looking forward to working with TCG to promote mental health awareness in the wider Irish community and want to thank everyone for their fantastic efforts”
Well done to DIL London for organising such a special and worthy event. The money generated from the walk is donated to Pieta House and icap to help support their counselling services for people at risk.
