(LISOS- London Irish Survivors Outreach Service)
Salary: £23,931
Permanent (Subject to continued funding)
The London Irish Centre is the largest Centre for Irish migrants outside of Ireland. The Centre provide a wide range of welfare services which aim to improve the quality of life of Irish people living in London. As part of these services, they offer on-going support to Irish emigrants who experienced child abuse whilst in institutional care in Ireland.
The project requires an individual who has experience working with vulnerable individuals to provide structured and personcentred support. Experience providing information and emotional support to a vulnerable client group is essential, as is an understanding of the needs of Irish people living in London.
Over the last ten years this service has improved the quality of life of thousands of Irish survivors living in London. This is a challenging and rewarding role within a project which continues to have a significant impact on the lives of Irish survivors of institutional abuse.

There are several volunteer positions available with the Irish in Birmingham Group.
Bereavement Voluntary Support
The group are seeking to recruit a number of volunteers in order to support people experiencing loss by bereavement. The volunteers and a number of staff will deliver individual support to clients.
Cruse Bereavement Care will provide a comprehensive training package to support this development. Volunteers will be offered this training free of charge and will also receive regular supervision.
A volunteer who offers help and support to people at a deeply vulnerable time in their lives requires commitment and resilience. Although this is not a counselling service, it will be very useful if you have previously supported people and possess counselling skills or have undertaken other relevant and related training. You would need to be able to offer at least 3 hours per week and be available for supervision on a regular basis.
If you are interested in this opportunity please contact Paula on 0121 604 6111 to discuss your interest further. The training will commence on the 7th March and our hope is to launch the new service during April 2012.
"I came to the Federation of Irish Societies FIS a year back as an Assistant Policy Officer intern and felt that it was one of the best decisions I made. I got well acquainted and adapted to the amicable working environment very quickly. Although degree relevance and experience is important I realised more that FIS recognises potential in the individual more and helps nurture and develop it. The amount of growth and development I got whilst being in FIS was invaluable and I highly recommend it for anyone whose thinking about entering into the third sector.
There are a variety of roles you can get started off with including policy (with a focus on health) related roles, campaigning, fundraising, and coordinating roles. I would like to thank everyone at FIS for the experience I’ve gained here and wish them the best of luck in all their future endeavours."
