EU Referendum result

EU Referendum result – A message from the Chair of Irish in Britain, Patrick Morrison

“It has been a significant night for British, Irish, and European politics. The vote and the campaigning has shown a strong interest in the direction of Britain and Europe by the people of Britain and especially the Irish community in Britain. We must now hope that the period of uncertainty we face is dealt with in a positive manner and that the strong and positive relationship between Britain and Ireland we have seen in recent years is not damaged and that we can continue to build on the close and special relationship between Britain and Ireland going forward.
For the Irish in Britain we are now faced with living in a country which is no longer part of the European family in the same way as Ireland. Irish in Britain will continue to work in the best interests of our community and support our members in adapting to the new landscape which will be taking shape before us over the coming weeks and months. We must work to ensure that the significant place our community has in Britain is not undermined or degraded in the future and continues to play a part in shaping the future”
